Qualcomm Wireless Quick Charger is coming in Market
Qualcomm has confirmed that its Quick Charge programme is expanding to wireless charging, including Qi standard devices. This will ensure that wireless charging pads are compatible with Quick Charge tested power supplies and mean that you're getting efficient charging of your device.
The aim of the Quick Charge programme is not just to provide rapid charging of devices. Moreover, it's about ensuring that the charger you're using is supported by your phone and that you're getting efficient charging that's not going to waste energy, produce surplus heat or damage your battery.
Adding wireless charging to the roster will mean that you can buy a wireless changing pad and know that it works with your Quick Charge charger and with your device to be as safe and efficient as possible.
The first to take advantage of the new arrangement is Xiaomi, who announced the Xiaomi Mi 9 alongside a new Qi wireless charging pad which uses a 20W charging system - which is blisteringly fast for wireless charging.
"We are excited to introduce Quick Charge protocol for wireless power in Mi Wireless Charging Pad, complementing our existing line-up of Quick Charge technology-certified wall and battery chargers, and providing our loyal customers the lowest charge times and maximum power efficiency possible across their charging options," said Yangteng Wang, lead of wireless charging, Xiaomi.
Qualcomm says that the move has been necessary because of a number of devices appearing which claim Quick Charge support, but aren't actually QC compliant. The expanded programme should make it easier to confidently buy the right wireless charger for your phone.Collected
